All I have to say about Oprah and her 40 refound pounds is that, if America’s sweetheart, with her millions and millions of dollars and her literal army of assistants — trainers, personal chefs, doctors, nutritionists, counselors, etc. — can’t keep the weight off, then the rest of us chubby plebeians out here should step back, take a deep breath, and just be a little kinder to ourselves. I don’t just think, I KNOW this kind of yo-yo weight loss has contributed to her — and my — weight issues over the years.
She maintains that her fall off the wagon is due to a out-of-balance thyroid, and, in deference to my thyroid-deficient friends — and I have many — I’ll refrain from speculating on that excuse. And don’t go ragging on me — I think Oprah’s okay, just maybe a little self-absorbed sometimes.
This doesn’t mean that I’ll be accepting seconds on pecan pie this season (even if its ByJane’s recipe) or that I’ll quit nagging myself to get off my lazy backside and go for a walk. I’m just not looking for any more reasons to despise myself. And neither should you.
A blessed, peaceful and gracious holiday to you all! (And apologies for my absence from the Blogosphere. Life happens…)

Life? What is this life of which you speak?

My son and his new bride were here for Thanksgiving, so we all took a mini-break to one of the local national parks, and then I had a business conference in San Francisco. A good time was had by all, but precious little time for blogging. Thanks for asking.

I just didn’t understand why her weight gain was headline news, on all the morning shows etc. groan.

Anything Oprah does — or doesn’t do — seems to make the headlines, and it’s made me a little weary of her. I know what you mean, MAD…

Whaddaya mean–life happens. MidLifeBloggers is dying on the vine without you, missy. Come back, come back–soon!

Understood. Will attempt to engage brain.

We all need to be kinder to ourselves at midlife about the weight issue. But also to be healthy and get exercise etc. and you’re right about if she can’t keep it off with all her $ and armies of trainers….

Glad to see you back. And I shall try to take your advice and not find any new reasons to despise myself. Hell, like most women, I already have reasons a-plenty.

First things first! Glad to see you back in the bloggy world.
As for Oprah, it just goes to show you that all the financial advantages in the world won’t help if you’re not willing to make changes and stick to them. And all this time, I just thought if I could afford a personal trainer and a chef to plan and prepare healthy meals, I would be a size 6. HA!

Wow, Duchess, I can’t imagine you in a funk over your failings. You always seem like serenity itself!
Thanks for the note, Ann. (Great blog, BTW. I need to work on posting more photos…)
Ha, indeed SMB! (Although I’d still like to try life with a personal chef…)

Oprah. Meh…
I’m so over worshiping at the feet of St. Oprah and could care less how fat she’s getting, but I love the perspective you’ve given us here.
Kindness to oneself is a tall order for moi, but I work daily on that ever unattainable feat.
Glad you are back!
